Cardioversion
A procedure that uses electrical energy or medication to restore a normal heart rhythm in patients whose heart beats too fast, too slow, or irregularly due to atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias. Learn more.
Cholesterol Screening
A blood test that measures total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, and triglycerides to assess cardiovascular risk and guide preventive treatment for heart disease across the Capital Region. Learn more.
Cardiac CT Scanning
Cardiac CT uses advanced technology to visualize your cardiac anatomy, coronary circulation, and great vessels. Learn more.
Nuclear Stress Testing
A cardiac imaging test that uses a small radioactive tracer to evaluate blood flow to the heart muscle at rest and during stress, helping detect coronary artery disease and areas of reduced perfusion. Learn more.
Cardiac Catheterization
A minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular conditions by threading a thin catheter through a blood vessel to the heart to measure pressures and visualize coronary arteries. Learn more.
Electrophysiology
A specialized branch of cardiology focused on diagnosing and treating abnormal heart rhythms including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and heart block using advanced mapping and ablation techniques.
Catheter Ablation
A procedure that uses radiofrequency energy or extreme cold to destroy small areas of heart tissue causing irregular electrical signals, restoring normal rhythm in patients with arrhythmias. Learn more.
Electrocardiography
(ECG, EKG)
A non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of the heart to detect arrhythmias, signs of a heart attack, and other cardiac conditions. Used routinely for diagnosis and monitoring. Learn more.
Exercise Stress Test (Cardiac Stress Test)
A test performed while the patient walks on a treadmill to evaluate how the heart responds to physical activity and detect signs of coronary artery disease or abnormal heart rhythms. Learn more.
Holter Monitor
A portable ECG device worn for 24 to 48 hours that continuously records heart rhythm during normal daily activities, used to detect arrhythmias that may not appear during a standard office visit. Learn more.
PET Scan (Cardiac PET/CT)
A cardiac PET/CT scan measures blood flow to the heart muscle using the GE Omni PET/CT system — one of the most advanced cardiac imaging technologies available in the Capital Region of New York. The test identifies areas of reduced perfusion, coronary artery disease, and hibernating heart tissue to guide treatment decisions. Learn more.
PCI: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
A non-surgical procedure used to open narrowed or blocked coronary arteries, typically performed with balloon angioplasty and stent placement to restore blood flow and reduce heart attack risk.
Pacemaker Implantation
Surgical placement of a small device in the chest that monitors heart rate and delivers electrical impulses to maintain a normal rhythm in patients with bradycardia or heart block. Learn more.
CCA Connected Cardiology
A remote cardiac monitoring program that allows CCA providers to track a patient's heart condition from home using connected devices, reducing hospital visits while maintaining continuous clinical oversight. Learn more.
Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
A non-surgical imaging procedure in which an ultrasound probe is guided through the esophagus to produce detailed live images of the heart's structure, valves, and function.. Learn more.
The WATCHMAN
An FDA-approved implantable device that permanently closes the left atrial appendage to reduce stroke risk in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation who are unable to take long-term blood thinners. Learn more.
Cardio-Oncology
A specialized service that monitors and protects heart health in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, or other treatments that may cause cardiovascular damage or increase cardiac risk.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
A minimally invasive procedure to replace a severely narrowed aortic valve without open-heart surgery, offering patients with aortic stenosis an effective option to improve quality of life and outcomes. Learn more.
Coronary Stent
Placement of a small metal mesh tube inside a narrowed coronary artery following balloon angioplasty to keep the artery open and maintain blood flow to the heart muscle. Learn more.
Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD)
A device implanted in the chest that continuously monitors heart rhythm and automatically delivers a life-saving shock to restore normal rhythm if a dangerous arrhythmia is detected. Learn more.
Barostim
Barostim™ An FDA-approved implantable neuromodulation device for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) that activates the body's natural cardiovascular regulators to reduce symptoms when medications alone are not enough. Capital Cardiology Associates and Albany Medical Center have performed more than 50 Barostim implants — a milestone in the Capital Region of New York.
